Alleged gun thief under investigation

A St Catherine man who allegedly stole a gun, is now the subject of an investigation for breaches of the Firearms Act.

He is Jermaine Williams, a 26-year-old labourer, of Old Road, Glengoffe, St Catherine.

The incident allegedly took place at Williams' home on September 4 about 9 p.m.

Police reports are that the complainant who is a member of the Island Special Constabulary Force went home and reportedly placed the gun under his pillow and went into the bathroom.

He allegedly heard a sound in the room where he had left the weapon. The policeman reportedly rushed out and saw Williams running away with the revolver.

The Star learnt that the complainant sounded an alarm and called the Glengoffe Police Station.

An investigation was launched during which the police went to a house. Williams was found hiding and he allegedly took the police to the root of a tree where he had hidden the gun.

The weapon contained five-live rounds and one spent shell.

Investigations by The Star revealed that Williams is likely to be charged with larceny of firearm and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition. - R.T.
