Parish knock-out champions Frazer's Whip and Portmore-based Portsmouth copped mid-season crowns in the LIME-sponsored St Catherine FA Division One, and Major League respectively, at the Prison Oval on Sunday.

Frazer's Whip thrashed Treadways 5-0 in a lopsided opening game, to cop their second trophy of the season. Kemar Beckford struck a hat-trick in the 45th, 70th and 82 minutes, and Excelsior High School star player, Juvanne Benjamin scored a brace in the 32nd and 54th minutes.

In the second game, Portsmouth were able to better adapt to wet conditions caused by a heavy downpour, and won 2-1 over Major League leaders Black Lion.

Portsmouth who missed at least four chances early in the first half, two of which were sitters, scored on the stroke of half-time through their veteran striker Kevin Williams.

It was an incident where Williams was fortunate to rob the ball from an unaware Lion's defender, and slot home. Kyle McGibbon gave Portsmouth a 2-0 lead early in the second half, but Black Lion captain Seymour Lewis pulled a goal back to make the final minutes of the game a tense affair.

victory

Portsmouth coach Michael Haye said that his team's victory was achieved through proper preparation and planning.

"The team played excellent tonight (Sunday), this victory was due to a combination of good football and preparation. We didn't play our usual brand of football because of the condition of the field, nonetheless we achieved our first objective of the season, which is to win the mid-season final and we just need to take it from here."

At the end of the match, Courtney Bell, community programmes manager for telecommunications provider LIME, handed over the championship trophy to Portsmouth captain Horace Jones.
