The newly opened Portmore Career Development Centre is geared at counselling persons and provide them with new skills and career path.

The new facility was opened on the grounds of the Portmore HEART academy to much fanfare on Monday. "We at HEART is moving out of the school age group and into the wider communities. We are desirous to help anyone in career direction," Cynthia Dewdney a director of the HEART Trust/NTA said.

thankful

It was revealed to THE PORTMORE STAR that similar centres would be replicated throughout the island. Dewdney said Portmore is the pilot project due to its dormitory nature and population density.

Portmore mayor Keith Hinds endorsed the gesture of the training agency. "I am thankful for this venture. I am really happy that persons in Portmore will have the chance. Something tells me it will help persons especially during this time of recession, sometimes you have to change your career," Hinds told THE PORTMORE STAR.

Member of Parliament Colin Fagan said the centre is a great addition to Portmore and Jamaica.

THE PORTMORE STAR was informed that there will be career counsellors from HEART to inform of new skills, how to write résumés and even place persons in jobs.

Many people who attended the opening told THE PORTMORE STAR that the centre will be very helpful to them.
