Spouse shot after break-up - Woman attacked for moving out of home

A 25-year-old woman who allegedly ended her common-law relationship was shot three times by her ex-lover on Sunday.

The incident reportedly happened in Tavern, Papine, St Andrew.

THE STAR understands that the woman, who is recovering in hospital, had moved out of the house where the couple lived. She went to reside with family on Saturday.

According to police reports, about 3:30 a.m, the woman was asleep in her family home, when the accused allegedly kicked off a door to the house and shot her three times.

The woman was reportedly shot twice in the hand and once in the stomach.

The police said the accused man, whose name is being withheld, remains on the run.

The St Andrew Central police are investigating.

In the meantime, a family member who spoke to THE STAR yesterday said that the injured woman is scared for her life. "Just imagine how you would feel if you were in a position like that. She is scared for her life and she wants protection from the police. Right now no visitors are allowed to see her."

The family member further reasoned, "he (the accused) is her boyfriend for about five years and she did move out her things on Saturday, and went by her parents and it was at her parents the shooting happen, no one else was hurt, him just run off."
