Accused robber gets new trial date

August 29 was the trial date set in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday for a man accused of housebreaking and larceny and receiving stolen property.

Richard Palmer of an Everest Drive, Kingston 17, address was offered $50,000 bail with surety. The investigating officer was bound over in the matter.

Palmer maintained his innocence and explained to the court that he was scapegoated on the day of the incident as he had no idea that the items he had in his possession when he was arrested were stolen.

It was revealed that a stolen DVD player was recovered by the lawmen in Palmer's house but he emphasised that he had no knowledge that it was stolen as he was only keeping it on behalf of someone who asked him to do so.

Allegations

Allegations are that the complainant locked up her premises and left. On her return, she discovered that the accused broke into her home and stole items and left by way of his entry.

Acting on intelligence, the accused was apprehended and took the police to where he had the items taken from the complainant's home.

Items reportedly taken included, one Dell laptop, one Sony DVD player, a CD player radio and $16,000 cash.
