Investigators in the St Catherine South Division were kept busy last night after one person, whose body was burnt beyond recognition was found along Dyke Road in Portmore, minutes after two persons were shot and injured in separate incidents.

Up to press time, the police were still trying to identify the occupant of a blue Noah Voxy minivan whose body was set ablaze in the vehicle along the Portmore road.

Reports are that some time after 8 p.m., explosions were heard in the area. Checks later revealed that a body was in the vehicle which was seen ablaze. The police were called to the scene where they saw the vehicle that was totally burnt. It was revealed that the person inside was burnt beyond recognition.

About 30 minutes earlier, the police were called to Gregory Park where a man was shot and injured at about 7:30 p.m. A few minutes later, a taxi operator was shot in the head in Newlands, St Catherine. He was taken to hospital where he was admitted in serious condition.

Operation Officer for the St Catherine South Division, Superintendent Clive Blair, said the police will continue the fight against criminals.

"We are fighting assiduously. However, we need the help of residents to continue the fight," Blair said.
