Macka Diamond produces own album |

Sadeke Brooks, Staff Reporter Having released only one album in her career, dancehall artiste Macka Diamond is releasing another called 'Don't Disturb Mi'. In 2006, the artiste released Money-O while signed to Greensleeves Records. However, the deal was cut short due to the company's closure. Years later, Macka Diamond says she is taking on the task of doing her album on her own with VP Records as the distributor. Macka Diamond, whose real name is Charmaine Munroe, says this new effort is completely different from the first. "The previous one was good too enuh. At the time I was signed to Greensleeves and it got a lot of help. But this one is my own production. It has a lot of songs that will do well in Jamaica and abroad," she told THE STAR. "I think this is a step that will take my career to another level. This set of work I am doing is going to go further than just Jamaica. Some of the songs that I am doing now are likely to get a break internationally," she said. breaking in the US market One such song is You Like It on the popular 'Overproof' rhythm, which is a collaboration with Devina Burn. According to Macka Diamond, the song might possibly 'break' her in the US market, "but I know I am going to do well in Europe and the islands." The album already has popular songs like Too Much Bull, Flashing Lights and Cowfoot. The 14-track album will also have exclusives like Splice Dem with Unicorn and Redemption Paradise which is a collaboration with Tarrus Riley, Lady G, Barbee and Duane Stephenson. Macka Diamond says the album is already available on some music websites and will be on iTunes by November 8. However, the hardcopy will not be released until January, at which point the album will officially be launched. "It's already selling and it's doing well. I am just asking the fans to support the album because it's going to be well worth it," Macka Diamond said. Meanwhile, she says the video for You Like It will be shot in another two weeks. She also said she was preparing for the busy Christmas season that will include shows in French Guiana and Canada. In addition, Macka Diamond says her birthday celebration in January will be held in Kingston, Mandeville and Montego Bay. |
