Man sentenced for phone theft

A man who pleaded guilty to larceny of a cellular phone was sentenced to three months' hard labour in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

He is Isaac Aarons, a labourer of Spanish Town, St Catherine.

He told the court he only stole the phone after the complainant failed to returned a phone he had borrowed from him.

The complainant countered his claim.

"Your honour, mi barrow a phone from his sister, and him collect a Blackberry and a Samsung from mi, plus money. Him a tek set on mi," the complainant said.

no contract

Resident Magistrate Marcia Dunbar-Green told the accused there was no contract between him and the complainant.

He was subsequently sentenced.

Allegation is that the accused saw the complainant in Spanish Town with an iPhone.

He grabbed the phone and escaped.

He was subsequently held and charged with simple larceny.
