An obviously mentally ill man was led into the docks of the Corporate Area Resident Magistrates Court on Wednesday to answer to charges of malicious destruction of property.

He is Collin Blackwood of a Corporate Area address, who was remanded in custody until February 23.

On the day of the incident, Blackwood destroyed several dinnerware items and was later arrested and charged.

In a frantic and hyperactive manner, he explained to Resident Magistrate Lorna Shelly Williams that he has been using drugs and had tried desperately to seek help, going as far as begging to be locked up to prevent him from having access to the substance.

The judge subsequently ordered a psychiatric evaluation be done on him.
