D-Major is on a roll. With a new album on the horizon and two hot singles making waves internationally, the singer is looking forward to big things in 2012. D-Major, the former Calabar High student who now works out of Penthouse Records after a few years at Big Yard, has a new single That's What Love's About - that is being heard frequently on local radio and has been gaining momentum internationally. Already the song, produced by Notice Productions on the Heart and Soul rhythm, is creating waves in Africa and in the wider Caribbean, he said. "The song is now accompanied by a video because the response has been overwhelming," D-Major tells the STAR. "The video dropped recently and the response to that has been crazy. Apparently this song is going to do really well for me." The video was produced by Dameon Gayle. The singer said his connections abroad have informed him that the song is being played with increasing frequency on radio stations and at parties all over Kenya. D-Major had travelled to Kenya last year and performed on shows with Chris Martin to rave reviews and has since established quite a fan base there. But Kenya isn't the only place showing love to That's What Love's About. "It's also crazy in Tortola," he said. D-Major also has another song called Woman - a cover of the song made famous by the late John Lennon and released by Penthouse Records that he said is picking steam in Germany. "And they haven't even heard of That's What Love's About yet," he said, the excitement in his voice evident. The entertainer and his team are currently thinking about producing a video for Woman, which was produced by Donovan Germain, as it has been popping up atop playlists on radio stations in Germany. He argues that there is merit to producing songs and putting them out on the market because one can never tell where they might be well received. The early inroads made by these two songs, he believes, is a sign that things are looking up and they should provide the perfect platform for an album that he expects to drop sometime later this year. "We plan to maintain the momentum and build on it. I have found myself amongst a set of people who are arguably among the best in the business, so it's really a blessing," he said. "We're definitely taking things to another level, so 2012 is a year for big things because fans are finally getting a debut album from D-Major." But while the stage is being set for his debut album, the singer who has had some success doing collaborative efforts with his friends and colleagues Chris Martin, Busy Signal and Richie Loop, said he is holding off on future collaborations. He feels he has done enough of them for the time being. Now it's time for D-Major. |
