Court left amused

Laughter consumed the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday when a man charged with praedial larceny after he was caught stealing plantains from a property proved difficult to communicate with.

The defendant, Garland Young, who was eventually remanded for psychiatric evaluation until March 8, had persons laughing in the courtroom from the moment he entered the dock.

"Guilty or not guilty of praedial larceny?" Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey asked the defendant, to which he replied, "they catch me ... They caught me," which amused the court.

Young later spoke in gibberish, which further amused the court.
