Wheelchair Jamaican held in drug find

A 27-year-old Jamaican man who is wheelchair bound is among four persons held in connection with a large quantity of drugs at the VC Bird International Airport in Antigua.

According to reports on antiguachronicle.net, three Jamaican nationals and a 19-year-old Antiguan female are now in police custody after members of the Narcotics Department discovered more that 20 pounds of cannabis inside a battery operated wheelchair.

The drug reportedly has an estimated street value of $83,000. It is reported that a 27-year-old Jamaican arrived in the country on a Caribbean Airlines flight bound to the wheelchair late Sunday night.

THE STAR understands that the officer from the Narcotics Department, who was on duty at the airport, carried out a check on the wheelchair and discovered the substance concealed in two large power supply batteries attached to the wheelchair.

The wheelchair occupant and three other persons were taken into custody. Investigations are ongoing.
