A bearer who attempted to defraud a woman of $460,000 was ordered to repay the money when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday. Charged with fraudulent conversion is Christopher Fielding. The court was told that Fielding collected the money from the complainant and used it to his own benefit. He in turn pleaded guilty and told Resident Magistrate Desiree Alleyne that he is willing to pay back the money. RM Alleyne asked the accused how much money he had in his possession to repay today to which he replied, "$50,000, your Honour." The complainant was then asked by the RM if she was willing to accept the $50,000 and she replied, "Yes, your Honour." Fielding then presented the court with a cheque valued at said amount which was examined before being handed to the complainant. Upon receipt of the cheque, RM Alleyne then ordered that Fielding give his fingerprint to the police and return to court on June 4 for sentencing. He had his bail extended until that time. Resident Magistrate Desiree Alleyne also told that accused that the cheque presented will have to be verified and that he should bring the balance to the next court appearance. |
