Floyd Coke, head coach of Naggo Head Primary, after seeing his school cop their fourth consecutive Swizzzle/Institute of Sports Primary Schools Athletics Championships title at the National Stadium last Saturday, is now looking at a dynasty at the school. He believes that his school can achieve a dynasty and go beyond what no school at this level has done and set the standard for other schools and coaches to follow. "What we are hoping is that we start something that can change Jamaica's track and field level and lift the standard of other schools as well," Coke said, adding that he was pleased with the standard of his athletes, especially in the high jump event. The Portmore-based Naggo Head sped away with the title as they amassed 197.50 points to finish ahead of New Providence, 147. The top two were followed by Greater Portmore (106) and Belmont Park (92). St Benedict's (79.50), Spanish Town (69.50), Southborough (65), Portsmouth (64.50), Harbour View (64), and St John's (56) round off the top 10. Ewarton's Christopher Taylor accounted for two of the six records that were broken on the final day when he captured the boys' Class One sprint double. Taylor sped to 24.02 seconds to break the 200m record of 24.13 set by Raheem Chambers of Belmont Park. Ensom City's Tyreke Wilson was second in 24.07, ahead of Brandon Heath of George Headley, 25.13. Taylor completed the double when he won the 400m in a new meet record of 53.46, destroying the previous time of 56.27. |
