A man was fined $20,000 by Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey for unlawful wounding in a Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court recently. The court was told that the accused, Conroy Johnson, used a rachet knife to cut the complainant on his finger causing the fingernail to fall out. Johnson pleaded guilty with explanation. He said on the night of the incident he was under the influence of alcohol. The complainant, in an attempt to settle the matter, told RM Pusey, "Ma'am I am a deacon in the church and I raised him from he was a child, and therefore do not want the matter to go any further". Pusey stopped him in his tracks, however, telling him, "Right now I have to make my judgement". She told Johnson to leave the "Devil juice" alone because he could not manage it. Johnson was then told to give his fingerprint to the police and take $20,000 with him to court on May 25, when he returns for sentencing. His bail was extended until then. |
