Rasbert Turner, Star Writer
The police in St Catherine are on the hunt for several men pretending to be blind, who have held up and robbed several motorists travelling on the Grange Lane main road in St Catherine. Information reaching THE STAR is that the robbers, using sticks and dark glasses to boot, often walk along the roadway and into the path of the oncoming motorists who are forced to stop and let them pass. "We are hoping that while we investigate, persons will be wary of these criminals," a senior investigator probing several reports of robberies by the 'disabled' bandits, told THE STAR. Among the motorists who were robbed, were men on a truck transporting cement. The police said that as the truck was cruising along the thoroughfare, a 'blind' man walked into the road, forcing the driver to come to a halt. Immediately as it stopped several men appeared and began robbing the occupants. Pedestrians have also been robbed, the police said. Meanwhile, residents of the area have admitted to being plagued by not only the 'blind' robbers but other men who commit various crimes. The disgruntled residents said that the police need to step up their presence in the area to stem the criminal activities of these unscrupulous persons. |
