Schoolaz: main sex pill buyers
Andre Williams, STAR Writer
Schoolboys are the most popular buyers of the sex pill called 'Blue Whale' on the streets, THE STAR has learnt.
Jomo, a vendor of the pills based in the Corporate Area, said that the pills are being lapped up left, right and centre by schoolboys on a regular basis.
Jomo says, "Right now mi have fi a hide and sell di pill dem still but the youths dem know how to find me when dem want di Blue Whale."
He further said; "Plus a me suppose to sell dem the cheapest because mi hear dem have some other type a sell fi $700 and mi run off mine for $300 ... a lunch money dat fi di youths dem."
Blue Whale, also known as Viagra, is scientifically called Sildenafil Citrate. It is blue, diamond shaped and belong to a group of medications called PDE-5 inhibitors.
According to information from the website www.sildenafilcitrate.com, the pill was considered the first oral treatment for erectile dysfunction. It was further discovered that the pill is a prescription drug that was developed originally as a means to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension.
Manufacturers subsequently discovered that it also seemed to be a suitable remedy for erectile dysfunction and through further studies and testing, the product became the number one treatment for erectile dysfunction in 1998.
But little of this matters to Jomo, who says he is eternally grateful for the support he receives for the products especially from the schoolaz.
In fact, so happy he is with his school-going customers, he provided us with a number for one of them. The fifth-form youngster, who declined to give his name and his school, said he has been using the drug for more than a year.
"When me use it mi feel like a real man and di girls dem enjoy the feeling. I was introduced to it by an elderly friend still and from mi use it the first time bout a year ago mi like it ... It make me feel mightier," he said with a childish giggle.
Reputed physician Dr Jephthah Ford told THE STAR that the pill is extremely popular here in Jamaica but should be prescribed by a doctor.
He said, "When a man's potent is failing these pills allow him to gain an erection. These pills are Viagra and may lead to death as it lowers the blood pressure and cause the heart to speed to compensate for the fall in blood pressure, therefore one can die while having intercourse."
He continued, "These types of pills build confidence among the youngsters, and make them feel like they not going to fail ... It's a 100ml pill and some will break it into four and use 25ml each time."
Webster Francis, detective inspector at the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA), told THE STAR that any drug that is prescribed should not be sold to youngsters.
He said, "The situation with the Viagra I am not aware of and I cannot comment except to say that no report has been made to CISOCA as it doesn't involve abuse, though it is sexually related. In the event there are reports like these it can be made to any regular police station."
