New crime fighting unit launched

A new elite crime fighting unit, the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Task Force (MOCA) was launched on Monday with an aim to crush the top crime bosses locally.

The launch of MOCA took place at the Police Officers' Club located on Hope Road, St Andrew.

MOCA is the latest initiative being undertaken to assist in targeting major players of Jamaica's criminal network and crooked officials.

According to the security ministry, this task force will identify, investigate and prosecute crooks and crime facilitators.

The ministry firmly believes this initiative is unlike other anti-corruption ventures of the past. The primary focus of MOCA will be to take the profit out of crime.

MOCA will include representatives from the Jamaica Constabulary Force, The Jamaica Defence Force, The Financial Investigation Division, Taxpayer Audit and Assessment Department, among others.
