18-y-o on assault charge gets bail

Bail was granted in the sum of $30,000 with surety in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday for a man who is charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.

He is Kevron Mattis, 18, who was ordered to give his fingerprints to the police.

The court heard that on the day of the incident, the complainant, who was standing at his gate, was approached by Mattis, who was riding to a shop.

An altercation later reportedly developed between the two men and Mattis is alleged to have flung a stone, inflicting injuries to the back and upper right side of the complainant's arm and leg.

When asked how he pleaded, Mattis said Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey, not guilty. Based on his explanation of the incident, the magistrate told him that his story amounted to a defensive plea.

Mattis is to return to court on July 11.
