$12,000 fine for beating

A woman who pleaded guilty with explanation in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday was ordered to pay a fine of $12,000, or serve six months' imprisonment, after it was revealed that she used a board to inflict injuries on another woman.

The accused, Stacy-Ann Smith, is charged with unlawful wounding and was ordered to give her fingerprints to the police.

The court heard that the accused grew enraged after the complainant kept "throwing words" at her every time their paths crossed.

On the day of the incident, both women were involved in an altercation when the accused was pushed to the ground by the complainant. Smith retaliated by using a board to hit the complainant on the shoulder and wrist.

Smith was ordered to pay the money.
