Crystal Harrison & Sheldon Williams, Staff Reporters A 48-year-old woman is now dead after her throat was slashed on the St Peter's main road, in Mavis Bank, St Andrew, yesterday. Dead is Doreen Headlamb from Jackfruit Tree, Gordon Town, St Andrew. THE WEEKEND STAR understands that the police are searching for a man named Junior Hyatt from Mavis Hill in the parish in connection with the killing. THE WEEKEND STAR investigation has revealed that the woman might have been killed as she was unable to account for money amounting to US$20,000 (J$1,766,548) which was allegedly sent to her over time by a man. Headlamb's brother, Almarick, told THE WEEKEND STAR that a man, he later found out was his sister's ex-lover, had been enquiring about money he claims he sent to her through remittances while he was working abroad. "Him seh him send her more than US$20,000 but she tell my mother that she no have no money fi him," Almarick reasoned. He said that the ex-lover "tell me that she (Doreen) is the only woman him love and him send her money to buy material and to buy land" until he returned to Jamaica. Interestingly, Almarick revealed that it was not until his sister's demise that he was made aware that his sibling was in a relationship with the accused. In his puzzlement, Almarick remarked that "from I know Doreen, I've never seen her with that man. It might be that him love her ... a recently we hear seh dem deh". He also added that the ex-lover is well known in the district because he was an employee of a coffee factory where Headlam also worked. Reports from the police are that about 10:45 a.m., Headlamb was walking when she was attacked by a man near the Wallenford Coffee Factory. The man reportedly fled the scene and Headlamb died on the spot. Investigations are ongoing. |
