The police in Clarendon are investigating a case in which a 38-year-old woman claims she was locked inside her own bedroom, and beaten with a belt for several hours on Tuesday by her 21-year-old boyfriend, who accused her of stealing $100 from him. According to information gathered by THE WEEKEND STAR, the teary-eyed complainant visited the May Pen Police Station late Tuesday evening and begged to be saved from her enraged younger lover. He had been beating her all day after realising $100 was missing from a sum of money he had in one of his pants pockets. The woman who is from Oliver Gardens in the parish reported that she was locked up and given several rounds of lashing even though she denied taking the cash and even offered to replace it. The police say they were told that after locking the woman inside her room, the accused man left the house on a number of occasions before returning and using a belt to beat her all again. Bruises and swellings The woman also showed the police a number of bruises and swellings which she claimed was evidence of the whipping she received. But despite the beating, the police say the woman pleaded for them not to arrest the man she loves but to give him a stern warning. She is said to have claimed it was the first the 21-year-old had acted in such a manner toward her. She also argued that he was young and had nobody else but her, and they have been a couple for the past two years. The woman said she was given several rounds of beatings over $100, but still she was begging us not to arrest him because she says she loves him," Inspector Maurice Phillips of the Area Three police told THE WEEKEND STAR. The police, however, say they have contacted the accused man and are expecting to speak with him on the weekend. "We are trying to get the woman to co-operate with us, if the story she gave us is true, then the accused man should be punished for such a wicked act," another source told THE WEEKEND STAR. |
