SHELDON WILLIAMS, Staff Reporter Some final-year students at the University of Technology who complained about irregularities in the Business Administration Degree programme are now celebrating partial victory as they say the problems have been addressed. In February, students had told THE WEEKEND STAR that they were being forced by lecturers to participate in undesirable activities that went against their religious beliefs as part of their schoolwork. Since then, THE WEEKEND STAR understands that the grouses of the students have garnered attention from the institution's administration. "Whatever THE WEEKEND STAR was informed that the students, who were enrolled in the Business Administration Degree programme, had to participate in a raffle and attend a weekly 'session' to which those persons who were Christians were opposed. Our news team was told by students that, since the publication of the story, other students had emphathised with them and joined their cause. "You know Jamaicans. They are gonna run with the crowd. It really helped. The story came out and it took the pressure off us," another relieved student confessed. The students told THE WEEKEND STAR that they had voiced their disapproval openly in a lecture session, but it seemed their complaints had fallen on deaf ears. Another problem the frustrated students said they were having is that they were being forced to collect money on a regular basis as the course was depending heavily on fund-raising efforts to host a final seminar in March. The students said they are now awaiting the publication of their course grades.
