Female accused of assault pleads not guilty

Not guilty was the plea entered by a woman who has been accused of kicking a female constable in her abdomen.

She is Thurston Williams, who is charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm and resisting arrest.

Williams, who appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday, is to return to court on June 15.

Allegations are that on June 1 about 11 a.m., the accused was attempting to use a bogus credit card at a computer store when the police were called in.

The court heard that when a female cop attempted to accost the accused, Willaims kicked the woman constable several times in her abdomen and threw several blows to the cop's face.

However, Williams who denied the allegations, told the court that she was the one who was assaulted and beaten.

"Your Honour, the police used the car door to squeeze my leg," the accused said.

The court also heard that the police have placed question marks around Williams' name, as they believe that she has been using a fictitious title.

Williams was remanded and ordered to be fingerprinted.
