Man fined for assaulting cop

A man who believes that he can stay in an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) as long he wants was fined in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday, after he was convicted for assaulting a female cop.

He is Recardo Thomas, who was been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.

The court heard that the accused was inside an ATM in Duhaney Park, St Andrew, for about 20 minutes and got into a tussle with a female cop inside the machine.

"Your Honour, the lady at the NCB told me that I can stay in the machine as long as I want. Your Honour, di police came inside the machine and started calling me thief scammer, and she squeezed my testicles. She was in plain clothes," the accused told the court.

However, the complainant denied Thomas' report and told the court that the accused was taking a very long time in the machine, and assaulted her when it was her turn to use the machine.

"Your Honour, when I was using the machine he (the accused) punched me in my side and squeezed my neck. Your honour, somebody had to help me and I ran over to the nearby Duhaney Park Police Station. He was subsequently apprehended," the complainant said.

Thomas was fined $15,000 or six months in prison. He was also ordered to be fingerprinted.
