Woman fined for shoplifting

After begging and pleading for a non-custodial sentence for her client, a female attorney was successful in getting her to be fined $25,000 for shoplifting.

Charged with simple larceny is Nadine Reid who appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday.

Reid pleaded guilty to stealing more than a dozen food items and toiletries including soaps, cheese spread, tooth- paste and chocolate.

It is reported that on May 24 about 10:25 a.m., the accused went to the Empire Supermarket on Retirement Road in Kingston and stole the items.

The court heard that Reid stuffed the stolen items in her handbag and paid for other items she had in a trolley before attempting to walk from the food store.

Reid, who was reportedly seen on camera stealing the goods, was later accosted by a security guard who called the police.

The items which totalled just over $2,000 were recovered.

She was fined $25,000 or six months in prison.
