Having recently recovered from injury, promising young Edwin Allen sprinter Christania Williams has set her sights on lowering her personal best at next week's two-day Supreme Ventures Limited-sponsored JAAA National Junior Championships. The event will be held inside the National Stadium this Saturday and Sunday and the country's top juniors will be seeking places on the team to the Junior CAC Championships, which will be held in San Salvador between June 29 and July 1 and the IAAF World Junior Championships to be held in Barcelona, Spain, between July 10 and 15. Williams, the World Youth 100-metre bronze medallist, did not get a chance to compete for her country at the Carifta Games in Bermuda in April, after picking up an injury at the ISSA Boys and Girls' Championships after winning the Girl's Class II 100 metres. "I am now fit and ready to go as I have recovered well from my injury and I am looking forward to lowering my personal best of 11.39 seconds," said Williams, who will compete in the girls' Under-20 event. "I have no main threat in the event and my aim is to run a fast time," continued Williams. In her first race after injury at the third JAAA All-Comers meet a few weeks ago, she trailed in last in her heat of the girls' 100 metres and there were question signs surrounding her readiness for the National Junior Championships. However, she followed that up by finishing a close second at the fourth All-Comers meet behind teammate Monique Spencer. Williams then proved she was nearing her best form on the weekend when she ran the third leg on her team winning the 4x100-metre relay in a school record of 44.78 seconds in New York, at the Adidas meet. " In my first race after injury I was a bit scared and nervous, and because of this I was very cautious, but my two runs since, at the next All-Comers meet and my relay leg in New York, I feel very good and I am ready for the National Championships this weekend," Williams said, after arriving from New York yesterday. |
