Jockey on grievous sexual assault rap remanded

A Portmore racehorse jockey who is accused of conspiring with other men to have sex with a woman has been remanded in custody.

He is Jevaughn Ervin, 23-year- old from Gregory Park in the municipality.

When the case was called up in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Thursday, the accused jockey was remanded.

Ervin's lawyer was told that the accused needed to have his address verified before bail could be considered.

He is answering to charges of grievous sexual assault, unlawful detention with intent for other persons to have sexual intercourse, and unlawful detention to commit grievous sexual assault.

The allegations are that on May 12, he was having sex with an 18-year-old girl. He reportedly set up other men to sexually assault the complainant.

The matter was subsequently reported to the police in Portmore.

An investigation conducted by the Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse resulted in his arrest and the charges.
