A Father's Day prank has left a 27-year-old man nursing injuries to the face after he and his friend traded blows at a Portmore, St Catherine, party early yesterday morning, THE STAR heard. Information reaching THE STAR is that the two men were among a small group of friends at a party in Newlands, where they both reside. As the clock struck midnight, one of the men reportedly went over the component set, which was the party's source of music, and used the attached microphone to announce that he had a gift for his friend. THE STAR heard that the man left for a while, went to his vehicle and returned with a neatly wrapped gift while declaring, "nobody not even look pon this, a fi mi real fren, a him mi buy it fah." It is said that the 27-year-old then handed over the gift to his friend, who immediately removed the decorative wrapping, much to the delight of the others in attendance at the party. However, it would be soon realised that the gift was only a doll, used as part of a Father's Day prank to jeer him about not yet being a parent. attacking his friend Anxiety and laughter quickly turned to sheer disbelief as the man who was given the doll, threw the toy high into the branches of a nearby tree before attacking his friend, fists flying, THE STAR was told. "Di man dash weh di dolly and rush him friend ... At first wi think a play fight but then wi realise seh a real tump a fling," a 19-year-old woman who claimed to witness the incident recalled. The man who was given the doll simply drove away from the scene after the attack and had not been seen up to yesterday evening. "Mi nuh know if a di liquor buss inna him head but dat neva call fah, is just a simply joke among friends, nobody neva expect it woulda turn out suh," another witness added. When THE STAR contacted the Portmore police, sources say they have heard of the incident but no formal report has been made. Efforts to get a comment from the man who was attacked were unsuccessful as he declined, despite several attempts yesterday. A family member, however, later explained that the incident was simply a misunderstanding and said the police would not be contacted. |
