THE University of Technology's Julian Forte stole the spotlight on yesterday's final day of competition at the JAAA/Supreme Ventures Limited National Junior Championships at the National Stadium as he raced to a personal best of 20.38 to win the Under-20 Boys' 200m.

In the last event of the meet, Forte, who is ranked number three in the world on the IAAF world junior list in the 100 metres with 10.19, saved the best for the last.

His winning time ranks him second on the world so far this season as Tyreek Hill of the United States is at number one with 20.18 seconds. In yesterday's event, Tyquendo Tracy was second in a personal best 21.35 while Senoj-jay Givans of Munro College was third in 21.41 seconds.

"I am very happy that I came out and ran fast today and to know it is a personal best I am even happier. I could have gone much faster but the competition was not there but I will be working much harder in the upcoming days to step up my preparation for World Juniors," said Forte.

Yanick Hart of Wolmer's upstaged Kingston College's Stefan Fennell in the Under-20 110 m hurdles.

In a close finish, Hart clocked 13.80 to win from Fennell in 13.81, as Manchester High's Omar McLeod finished a close third in 13.83. Hart, who was beating Fennell for the second time this season was very upbeat after his win.

"I enjoy my rivalry with Stefan as that forces me to do my best every time I take the track with him. I had some problems going into the event as I had a serious hand injury but I promised my coach that I would have won," said Hart. St Jago High's Chrisdale McCarthy continued her unbeaten run on local soil in sprint hurdles as the Carifta Under-20 silver medallist, in a very close finish, got the better of her former teammate at St Jago, Samantha Scarlett, who is a freshman at Auburn University.

Competing in a negative wind, she clocked 13.72 for the win, as Scarlett did 13.74 with St Andrew High's Megan Simmonds taking third in 13.79.

Vere Technical's Olivia James maintained her dominance over Holmwood's Chrisann Gordon in the 400m, as she won the Under-20 event in 53.16 as Gordon clocked 53.43 with overseas-based Sandrae Farqhuarson finishing third in 54.33.
