The Meteorological Service of Jamaica is advising the public that the flash-flood watch for low-lying and flood-prone areas of St Mary, Portland, St Thomas, Kingston and St Andrew early yesterday would remain in effect until 5 a.m., this morning.

A flash-flood watch means that flash flooding is possible and residents are advised to take precautionary measures, keep informed by listening to further releases from the Meteorological Service and be ready for quick action if flooding is observed or if a warning is issued.

increased rainfall

An area of low pressure and associated trough across the southwestern Caribbean has been influencing weather conditions across Jamaica since Sunday. As a result, sections of eastern and central parishes were mainly affected by increased rainfall yesterday.

The forecast is for cloudy conditions with periods of showers and thunderstorms, which could be heavy at times.

A gradual improvement is expected on Wednesday as this area of unstable weather drifts further northwestward.

Fishers and other marine interests are being advised to exercise caution as strong, gusty winds could be experienced in the vicinity of showers and thunderstorms.

The Meteorological Service will continue to monitor the situation.
