With a new name and different concept, producer Sharon Schroeter says viewers are in for a big treat when Digicel Stars is previewed on Sunday.

After many years as one of the top series in Jamaica, Digicel Rising Stars has changed its name and concept.

Instead of judges as was the case on Digicel Rising Stars, Digicel Stars will have four mentors who will be responsible for four genres: pop, gospel, R&B and Jamaican sounds. Each mentor will have four contestants to work with. The audition process has also changed, as persons will now audition by phone at 444-2443 or through the Digicel Stars BlackBerry app.

completely different

Schroeter noted that the show has been running since 2004 and it was time for a change.

"Digicel Rising Stars has come to the natural end of its format. We had a great run for eight years. We closed off that chapter and now we've decided to just completely come brand new - hence Digicel Stars. The changes in the format come with releasing a new show. It's a completely different show if compared to Digicel Rising Stars," she told THE STAR.

While there will be changes, the show will still be held at Courtleigh Auditorium on a weekly basis with the Chill room as one of its features. Terri-Karelle Reid will also return as the host.

Since disclosing the new format, Schroeter says the reaction from the public has been favourable and many persons have been auditioning. She noted that the new format might also encourage more persons to enter.

"I think the fear of performing in front of judges at auditions has been erased with the introduction of phone auditions and via BlackBerry app. If you make a mistake when you call, you can always try again and it won't affect your chances," she said.

Nonetheless, Schroeter says expectations are high for Digicel Stars.

"I have great expectations for the show. I'm very anxious about the new format. I can't wait to see the judges' faces when they hear their contestants. I can't wait to see the new set. I can't wait to hear the intense talent we're going to get. Digicel Stars is going to be great," she said.
