Enjoying God's assignment

Pastor Dorothy Buchanan

GEORGE HENRY, STAR Writer

Dorothy Buchanan is currently leading the flock at the Ebenezer Ministry International Church at Braeton in St Catherine and she is enjoying the work to which she has been assigned by God.

"It is a blessing. God has been really good to me and I can't complain. It is truly a blessing for me based on where I am coming from in the world. I am coming from the pit. God had to stretch His hands way down to pick me up out of that pit," said Buchanan.

Pastor Buchanan who got saved 14 years ago, confessed to THE STAR that she was an individual who loved the limelight and the glamour before she surrendered her life to Jesus Christ. She loved the glitter, used to open many dance floors and it was while on her way from a dance that she was spoken to by God about her soul.

"I remember the night while I was coming from dance when I heard the voice of God. The voice of God said that I should give my life to Him now; and I took a step," said the female pastor.

'living it up'

She said she has no regret for turning away from her former dancing and is currently dancing to a different tune, beat and songs for the Lord. Buchanan pointed out that she does not miss her former life of 'living it up', because it is not now about the music she hears in church, but that it is about the anointing of God on her life.

She bragged that she loves the Lord with all of her heart; and if she should ever be given the chance by God to live her life over and over again, she would do so living for the Lord every time.

"We have challenges. There are a lot of challenges; there are a lot of things that really happen around us. I am not going to tell anyone that this walk with God is easy. It is not easy, but as long as one makes up his or her mind and is determined to follow Christ, you can make it," said the church leader.

Now in her thirteenth year as a pastor, despite her being appointed just one year after she surrendered her life to the Lord, Buchanan when asked how she would respond to critics who believe that women should never hold such office in the church, said God called men and women.

"Women were the first to run to the tomb to see that Jesus was not in the tomb. I think God is rising up powerful women of God now to get up, arise and take their stand. Why? Because men now on a whole are not as serious as women when it comes to the work of God," said Buchanan.

coming forward

She said she is not worried that the church is being taken over by women, while the men are slow in coming forward. She like many in society believes that it is 'woman time now'. She added that men have a little fear in them sometimes when it comes on to travailing; and to take up the challenge.

Pastor Buchanan added that God wants men and women to take up the challenge, but men seem always want to stay on the back burner and want to push ladies in front.

"So we take up the challenge. I want to say to those men who are out there in the 'world' and are wasting time before they surrender to the Lord, that it is time for them to arise and realise that God is calling man to the forefront . He (God) says 'man is the head' and that they should come in and taste and see what God is doing, because they will never regret it," noted Pastor Buchanan.

Buchanan like many Christians has a favourite Bible passage. Her favourite passage of scripture is Psalm 91. She said it is, because she is hiding under the shadow of the Almighty God at all times. As long as she is under the shadow of God, Buchanan said He (God) will defend her and cover her back. Her favourite chorus is, 'I need the anointing, because the harvest is ripe'.
