A woman who was arrested as a man and placed in a male lock-up for about a week was brought before the court yesterday after cops unveiled her secret. Interestingly it was revealed in court that the 'wanna be man' was wearing a strap-on male sex organ. Charged with making a false declaration is Tiffany James, who made her appearance in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court. The accused initially had given her name as 'Craig Matthews'. James initially answered burglary and larceny charges under the said name Matthews. She is to return to court on June 29 for sentencing. Her secret was unveiled after her female companion went to the police to bail her under under the male name. The court heard that cops told the friend that there is no one in lock-up by the name given; however, upon further investigations the police found out that the so-called male is actually a female. On Thursday, the woman using the name Matthews was before the court on the allegation that she put her stepson through a window at dancer John Hype's home to steal his jewellery. The jewellery is said to value about $446,770. Matthews was offered $50,000 bail then. The dancer, who also appeared in court on Thursday, said that he was off the island at the time and it was the child who later told him what had transpired. The prosecutor also told the court that the seven-year-old child had given a statement to the police. James has now pleaded guilty to the charges and apologised to the court, saying that she lied because the person who could bail her knew her as a man and that was her only way out. "I am a female your honour, I was scared. I apologise," the accused said. |
