We all should be singing the same song

We all should be singing the same song for our Jamaica 50th, but it seem like some throat get hoarse after dem hear wat was supposed to be our 'official song' for our celebration.

The hullabaloo that has swept the nation and the entire diaspora has really, to me, revved up awareness about a momentous milestone in our country's history. Jamaicans all over have decided to voice their opinion on what kind of music they want to represent we fi di 50th. Some people have decided on one of the songs, some have decided on both.

Let us not, though, in all a dis, be ungrateful to the artiste dem who work hard fi put something together which they thought we would all love ... di only thing is that the thought was wrong, as the majority a people seem fi no like it.

The other contentious issue was how the previously commissioned song was handled, which was messy and coulda deal wid betta. Mi rate Shaggy and Mikey Bennett as two man weh represent fi Jamaica all day, everyday, and to me, had every intention to put out their best interpretation of wat the Jamaica 50 song should be about.

old wid di new

The mix-up and blenda has also shed light on the fact that maybe di overall process was wrong. To me, if the selection was done like how dem choose festival song - to put out some song and mek di people decide - we woulda did have a more tidy selection. Or maybe instead a one song, have a compilation of 50 of the best songs so people can have a cross section of artistes fusing the old wid di new.

Dancehall no jus' embody one set a artiste, wedda new or old, and there should be space to adequately sift out the best from then til now while not seeming to snob a particular era. No feel no way still enuh, unnu know we fault-finding and terrible already, so all when di bes' a di bes' put out, some still ago have a problem. But if the majority seh yaaaay, we good to go.

Mi hope some remix or someting or another approach can come bout, so we need fi jump pon it fast, because di time a draw near. Mi know poor Lisa mussi frighten when di people dem start jump pon her bout di song and how it was chosen. No worry yaw goody, a so Jamaica people stay, dem cyaa tame, all when yuh a beauty queen dem will waa empty yuh like a wata bokkle!

But is time fi stop the division and let us all unite on one accord. Memba di worl' a look pon we an' if dem see we a fight over jus' deciding on one likkle song, is not a good look in the wider community of the world. Cause dem mus' ago seh we no really deserve fi a celebrate no 50th if a so we a go behave ova one song! Dem mus class we as some 'claffy'!

Who fi apologise and correct di miscommunication, dweet an mek we grill up someting fass so everybody can be singing and dancing and find di flag inna dem heart, because we all on a mission.

Jamaica land we love ... the land of wood and wata and good music. Music is the healing of the nation, let us not mek it divide us or tarnish the reason for the song in the first place and all we have done and achieved to get to dis point! Jamaica to di worl! Lalalalalalalalala!
