Man rearrested for drug-related charges

Dwayne McLeod, Star Writer

A 27-year-old St Catherine man was reportedly rearrested on drug-related charges cops say, after he was allegedly caught trying to smuggle ganja to prisoners at the Santa Cruz Police Lock-up in St Elizabeth, mere minutes after leaving there last Thursday.

The man, Jodian Campbell, had just paid a $20,000 fine subsequent to a guilty plea as he answered to similar charges relating to a June 19 incident at the Santa Cruz Transport Centre in St Elizabeth.

Police reports allege that a group of policemen watched Campbell as he had a conversation with inmates at the lock-up, and was later seen trying to smuggle a small amount of ganja to them.

He was reportedly arrested yet again, and taken back into custody and is to face the same court after he is formally charged in connection with the incident.

According to police reports, Campbell was arrested on June 19 after being caught with 1.8kg (4lb) of ganja at the Santa Cruz Transport Centre. He was subsequently arrested and charged.

"This is the kind of people we have to deal with as police," reasoned a policeman at the Santa Cruz Police Station when THE STAR contacted there yesterday.
