A St Catherine man accused of raping an underage girl suffered the wrath of concerned residents and ended up with broken hands and feet. The man appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday and was remanded. He had to be lifted into the court for his case to be heard. It is alleged that on June 1, the man who is in his early 40s, raped the 14-year-old and an alarm was raised. He was attacked by residents and severely beaten by an angry group. During the ordeal, both of his arms and legs were broken in several places. He was subsequently taken to the Spanish Town Hospital where he was admitted under police guard. Investigation by the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse resulted in him being charged with rape. He returns to court on August 7. |
