A taxi driver, who escaped with only minor injuries after his car ran off the roadway and ended up near a house down a steep gully in Stony Hill, Portland, is considering himself lucky.

The man, who goes by the alias 'Baby Monster', told The Weekend Star that he was driving alone at the time of the accident.

According to him, he was driving along the Stony Hill main road in his white Toyota Corolla motor car shortly after 10 a.m. on Tuesday en route to Long Hill, when he reportedly swerved to avoid hitting another vehicle, and ran off the roadway.

The car, which mysteriously avoided hitting a solid piece of concrete wall, sped through the gateway leading to a house approximately 200 feet down a slope, cleared 70 flights of stairs and mowed down a make-shift light pole, before landing head on a concrete structure with a water tank.

Two women, Fredrica Harris and her mother Millicent Dodd, who were at the rear of the house at the time of the accident, upon hearing the loud noise, fled for their lives in the direction of a nearby gully.

Ironically, two guard dogs that were at the house, also fled after hearing the loud commotion. Residents said it wasn't until shortly after 2 p.m. that they reportedly made a tentative appearance, but looking rather frightened.

The driver, who managed to jump through the window of the vehicle, suffered minor bruises, while the bumper and other parts of the front end were banged in.
