COP WHIPS BOY IN CLASS

Andre' Williams, STAR Writer

The manner in which an 11-year-old boy was recently beaten by a policeman inside his primary school classroom, has left several persons upset about the incident, THE WEEKEND STAR has learnt.

"The police give the little boy some heavy lick just because it was reported that he (the boy) allegedly kicked another student. That nuh right if yuh ask me," expressed a parent who claimed she was made aware of the situation through her son, who attends the school.

Information reaching THE WEEKEND STAR is that a policeman attached to a station in the rural area close to the school took it upon himself to reprimand an 11-year-old boy who has been labelled a troublemaker among his peers.

It is said that there were several reports made to the police about the behaviour of the little boy.

Allegations are that the boy was bullying the other children around, and is said to have committed other despicable acts.

Efforts to speak with the principal proved futile and a representative at the education ministry outlined that there were no numbers listed for the school.

THE WEEKEND STAR did manage, however, to speak with the policeman embroiled in the matter.

"We have had a number of incidents with this child," he said, adding the boy was recently brought to the station by his father for stealing. "Another parent brought her child to the station the other day, and that same little boy it was alleged threatened the child inside the station."

He continued, "I have been speaking to this child for so long ... after hearing that he attempted to draw a little girl into bushes, I went over to the school to ruff him up only to find out that our warning fell on deaf ears as reports surfaced that he had also kicked the boy he threatened."

THE WEEKEND STAR heard that the policeman 'emptied' the classroom of the other students and gave the 11-year-old student a fine whopping.

"I emptied the classroom because I didn't want the other children to see how I dealt with him ... for them to laugh or tease him afterwards," outlined the officer, adding that 'so so' mouth talk was no good for the little boy and he was too young to go to jail for his offences.

"I have not been informed of any actions, however, the principal called and expressed her concern about the issue on her school compound," said the policeman.

It is understood that the school principal was not pleased with the policeman's action as she did not want others to think that was how she operated her school.

THE WEEKEND STAR made several unsuccessful attempts to speak with the police personnel in charge at the station to obtain information on whether or not a report was made against the officer.
