Belmont Primary School boasts GSAT achievement

Portmore's Belmont Primary School has always boasted on its achievement in the Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT) with several students doing exceptionally well.

Among the top achievers were Dakar Harris, 12, who is the top GSAT science student at the school, with a 95 per cent mark. "This is one of the proudest days of my life. My son is a 'special' child, therefore, he required close attention. It's all good for us," his mother Claudia Martin told THE PORTMORE STAR during graduation exercise for the school at the Church of the Conversion of St Paul at 5 West, Greater Portmore, on Wednesday.

Harris told THE PORTMORE STAR that in addition to the science award Dakar got during the graduation, he also got four others awards and was showered with praises by his teachers and peers. Dakar will attend Bridgeport High next year.

Meanwhile, principal Edna Hibbert said she was very proud of the 176 students who graduated.

"We have always done better than the national average and it is a breath of fresh air to see the boys doing better than the girls," Hibbert said at the function, which saw all the students with a 90 per cent average and above being given special awards.
