Shock and dismay was the general feeling in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday when a matter involving two women accused of stealing a 2008 Suzuki Grand Vitara motor vehicle was mentioned. The women, 29-year-old nail technician Vaneisha Griffiths and 25-year-old higgler, Halcian Rhone, both from Kingston 2 addresses, did not enter a plea and were remanded until July 5. Allegations are that on Thursday, June 14, around 8 p.m., the complainant parked her vehicle at her home then retired to bed. About 3:30 a.m. the next morning, she realised that her gate that was securely locked was open and her motor vehicle missing. She subsequently made contact with King Alarm her security company. The court heard that two security officers were on patrol in the area when they received a panic alarm. While driving along Bellevue Drive, St Andrew, they allegedly saw two men standing by a Suzuki Grand Vitara and a white Toyota Corona. The security officers drove and parked alongside the vehicles. When they exited their vehicle one of the men allegedly pulled what seemed to be a gun from his waist. Consequently, one of the security officers pulled his weapon and fired two rounds. The men ran into nearby bushes and made their escape. The court heard that at that time one of the females exited the Toyota Corona and began running in the same direction. She was chased and held by one of the officers. Soon after, the other female was seen coming out of bushes. She allegedly told the security officers that she had gone into the bushes to urinate. Subsequently, the Constant Spring Police were summoned and the women arrested. The women are being represented by attorney-at-law Charles Williams. |
