Bahamian arrested on ganja charge

A Bahamian is among three men who were arrested in St James on Sunday in connection with the seizure of 1179kg (2600lb), or just over 1 tonne of marijuana.

The massive ganja seizure was made by personnel from the Transnational Crime and Narcotics Division (TCND).

According to police reports, an operation was being conducted in a section of the Barrett Hall Beach area in Lilliput, St James. About 11:30 p.m., a Toyota Hiace motor vehicle was stopped and during a subsequent search, 72 white knitted bags and another travelling bag containing 293 packages of compressed ganja were found.

The detained men were reportedly passengers in the vehicle and were consequently held.

They are to be questioned this week.
