Big U-16 semi showdown

An intriguing contest is expected when top seeds Roger Lyn and Nicholas Malcolm meet in today's feature Under-16 singles semi-final in the PanCaribbeanBank All Jamaica Junior Tennis Champ-ionships, starting at noon at the Eric Bell Tennis Centre on Piccadilly Road in St Andrew.

Lyn secured his place in the semi-finals of the competition with an easy 6-4, 6-2, victory over seven-seeded Roshane Henry. Malcolm, who is ranked fourth in the tournament, received a bye into the semi-final, after Blaise Bicknell withdrew to attend a tournament in the United States.

The other semi-final encounter between second-seed William Berry and third-seed James Cruze is also expected to be a very exciting affair.

Berry booked his spot in the semi-final with a comfortable 6-0, 6-2 win over Roshane Allen while Cruze advanced after recording a hard fought 6-3, 2-6 and 10-6 super tiebreaker win over Andrew Bicknell.

Cruze is confident of victory. "I am feeling very good and very confident and I know that tomorrow (today) will be another tough day," said Cruze.

Cruze and Bicknell will meet again in today's Under-18 semi-final while Horatio Ludford and Berry will clash in the other semi-final. In the girls' equivalent, Llana Blackwood will battle Phadria Kepple and Shaddae Findley will take on Alex Marzouca.

In the boys' Under-14, top seed Kyle Martin defeated Jonathan Richards 6-4, 6-2, Roger Lyn thrashed Daniel Hill 6-0, 6-0, Mathias Cooman beat Brandon Tom 6-0, 6-7 and (7-4 super tiebreaker) and Didier Traile got by Dwayne Hurmal 6-2, 7-5.

On the girls' side, Iesha Sterling beat Emanuelle Mottley 6-3, 6-4 and Shaeda Nickle stopped Llana Blackwood 6-1, 6-2.

In the boys' Under-12 section, number two ranked Richard Barnett outclassed Alhugh Green 10-4, Ruben Pinchas beat 10-4 and Frank Hart defeated Simeon Davis 10-4.

In the girls' equivalent, Emanuelle Mottley beat Mia Minott 10-0 and Emma Dibbs stopped Selena Blythe 11-9.
