Alleged stew peas and rice thief arrested

A man believed to be of unsound mind had the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court in laughter on Friday after it had been revealed that he was arrested for stealing a pot of stew peas and rice.

Charged with housebreaking and larceny is Alrick Lee.

Upon hearing the allegations, Resident Magistrate Lorna Shelly Williams immediately declared that a psychiatric evaluation be conducted on Lee before the matter could go any further.

The court was told that Lee had been given an injection while in custody.

Lee told the court that he lived alone as his mother resided overseas. No family member was present for the accused.

Williams told the clerk that she wanted the complainant to be present at the next court date, which is scheduled for August 27.

Lee was remanded until that time.
