Woman fined for stealing camera

A woman who pleaded guilty to stealing a digital camera in a MoneyGram outlet was fined $2,000 in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday.

She is Sasha-Gaye McPherson, who has been charged with simple larceny.

McPherson was fined $2,000 or six months in prison. In addition, she was ordered to give her fingerprints to the police.

Nearby counter

It is alleged that the accused went to collect money at a MoneyGram outlet in the Corpo-rate Area and stole a camera that she saw on a nearby counter.

The police told the court that the digital camera is the property of another woman who was doing business at the said location and who left her camera unattended.

The court heard that an alarm was raised for the complianant's missing camera and it was subsequently found in McPherson's possession.

"Your Honour, I didn't know that if you find something out in the public that you could be charged for it," McPherson said.

The Samsung digital camera is said to value US$150 ($13,350).
