Defence attorney Ramona Nelson was successful in her bid to acquire bail for her client, custom broker, Ricardo Gillespie, who has been charged with several counts of fraud. Gillespie was granted $5 million bail in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's court on Tuesday. He is to return to court on August 14 for a plea and case management hearing. The accused is said to owe several clients close to $10 million, which the court heard he collected to source motor vehicles from overseas. Gillespie has been charged with four counts of fraudulent conversion. His attorney told the court that her client was in the business of importing motor vehicles. It is alleged that in one of the cases against the accused, he tricked one of the complainants into believing that the motor vehicle which had been promised was on the Kingston Wharves. The matter was reported to the police when the complainant was unable to get the promised motor vehicle or a refund. As a condition of Gillespie's bail, he is to report to the Constant Spring Police Station every day and surrender his travel documents. In addition, Resident Magistrate Georgiana Fraser said that he should not solicit any business at the Kingston Wharves. |
