One would be forgiven for believing that Tony Matterhorn is just a little arrogant. After all, this is the man who, at a Death Before Dishonour Sound Clash in Montego Bay, St James, gave away the first round and encouraged the crowd to boo him because "oonu know sey at de end a de night a me a win de trophy."

They booed and he duly won the trophy anyway, as he said he would.

So one would be forgiven for believing that if 'Maggie bway' is just a little arrogant, then he has the right to be. After all, this is the man who turned the ladies heads - literally - with Dutty Wine and took on "tweeldledum and tweedledumber" (that would be the Twin of Twins) at Sting 2011, whopping them in emphatic fashion.

Many would be surprised to learn that Matterhorn is coming from the days of Inner City sound system in the 1980s, then going to New York to play King Addies with Babyface. But it is as a one-man operation that Matterhorn has pioneered the business of selecting and made his mark, arming himself with an arsenal of tunes and taking the show on the road from town to town, city to city, and country to country.

Very few persons in the business are as well travelled as Matterhorn and very, very few can claim to be even a fraction as versatile. Sure, other persons do the things he does - juggle, clash, urge on the girls to "dash out" and keep up a constant stream of patter and sample talk, but who can claim to do them all so well?

And while Matterhorn took care of some hit street dances in West Kingston, he enjoyed intense but verbally restrained clashes with Rodigan where he showed the depth of his music knowledge while reminding all of his pedigree. It does not hurt that he disdains the rough or overhyped look of many selectors; Matterhorn is invariably dressed and groomed to fit smoothly in the politest of company and is certainly capable of holding an extended conversation.

But when he is behind the microphone expect anything from the supremely confident Man From Mars!
