The Jamaica Football Federation's (JFF) Mission To Rio World Cup campaign is $4.8 million richer, thanks to the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica (Petrojam).

The energy company, which has in the past partnered with the federation for other World Cup qualifying campaigns, made the sponsorship donation at the JFF office yesterday.

"We do have a Reggae Boyz bus, but we know that it cannot be run on water," joked national coach Theodore Whitmore at the event yesterday.

"For every training session, every trip to and from the airport, every trip to a match, this fuel will make a difference.

It is against this background that on behalf of the technical staff and the players we stand and applaud Petrojam for its support," he added.

The sponsorship package, which will span four years, will take care of the Boyz's fuel needs, calculated at $100,000 per month and around $1.2 million per year.

renewed parternship

"On behalf of the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica, it is pleasure to renew our parternship with the JFF, and we wish the team all the support as they undertake their mission to Rio," said Michael Hewitt, Petrojam's manager of logistics and marketing.

"We congratulate the JFF for its sterling efforts over the years to promote national development through football, and unearthing and showcasing the talent of our footballers.

"The presentation of this symbolic cheque affirms our commitment to our corporate social responsibility, to help enhance the lives of our valued stakeholders through our contributions to health, education and sports," he said.

Petrojam joins Digicel, Suzuki, WATA and the Sports Development Foundation as companies that have signed on to the Mission to Rio campaign since the start of the year.

The Reggae Boyz Mission to Rio campaign is currently approaching its midway stage with Jamaica participating in the semi-final round of the CONCACAF qualifiers.

The team will next play the United States on September 7 at the National Stadium.
