J'can arrested for allegedly punching woman

A Jamaican man was arrested on Monday after he allegedly punched a woman in the face during a dispute over money in Maine, USA.

According to a report in the Bangor Daily News, Michael R. Dickson, 35, told police he had hired the woman as a prostitute, however, the alleged victim in the case claimed she was hired as an exotic dancer and that she was sexually assaulted by Dickson.

THE STAR understands that the Jamaican who is a seasonal employee, has been slapped with charges of criminal mischief, assault and engaging a prostitute.

Reports from the police are that the altercation occurred around 3 a.m. when the alleged victim and Dickson disagreed over how much she would charge for her services.

Dickson told police they had agreed on US$100 but that the woman tried to take US$200 from him.

According to the report, Dickson was later released from custody in Bar Harbor after posting a US$100 bail at the local police station.

The police are now investigating the woman's claims that she was sexually assaulted.

In the meantime, THE STAR has learnt that the woman was previously charged in May with engaging in prostitution. The charges it is understood followed an undercover police sting in Brewer.
