A female pickpocket who allegedly robbed a man of two cellphones and $6,400 while he was asleep is to return to the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on August 10 for sentencing. The accused, Nicola White, admitted that she took the phones, however, she said that she did not take the complainant's money. Resident Magistrate Georgiana Fraser ordered that the woman be fingerprinted and that her records be brought before the court. Allegations are that on the morning of the incident, the complainant fell asleep at a plaza in the Half-Way Tree area after travelling from St Thomas. It is alleged that while there, a passerby alerted him that he was being robbed. Further allegations are that when he jumped up, he saw a woman running away. When he went in search of her, it is alleged that he saw her coming from behind a section of the plaza. The court heard that when the complainant looked in the area from which the woman had emerged, he allegedly saw his knapsack lying on the ground with its contents missing. The complainant then alerted the police and the accused was accosted and a cellphone was handed over. She was subsequently taken to the police station and another phone and the cash were found on her person. |
